JoJo's Bizarre Adventure x Converse:
The JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise has teamed up with Converse, a skateboard apparel brand, to create a line of limited edition shoes. The collaboration first launched in 2013 with a collection inspired by the Phantom Blood storyline. In the following years, Converse released additional collections based on Stardust Crusaders and Diamond is Unbreakable. These collaborations have been popular among fans of the franchise and Converse alike.
Phantom Blood 2013
In 2013, Converse released a limited-edition line of JoJo sneakers as part of their collaboration with the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise. These sneakers were based on Converse's popular ALL STAR model and featured a "Star" logo colored to resemble JoJo's famous star-shaped bruise. Additionally, the Stone Mask, a key element from the first two parts of the series, was printed on the upper part of the shoes. Those who pre-ordered the sneakers were able to receive a free "mask light collection stone mask/limited gunmetal color version" keychain. The shoes were priced at 10,290 yen (approximately $100.65) and were set to ship in early December 2013. Do you want to try them on?
Stardust Crusaders 2014
The 2014 Converse x JoJo's Bizarre Adventure collection was inspired by the protagonist of Stardust Crusaders, Jotaro Joestar. The shoes feature references to the television and manga series, including sound effects written on the fabric, star-shaped grommets, an embroidered hand from Jotaro's hat, and anime art insoles. These unique details make these shoes a must-have for fans of the franchise.
Converse 100th Anniversary x Diamond is Unbreakable 2016
In 2016, Converse released a special edition collection to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the All Star sneakers. The collection, called the All Star 100, featured designs inspired by two central characters from the Diamond is Unbreakable story arc of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga and anime series.
The first design, called the All Star 100 OX / JO Yoshikage Kira, was inspired by the character of Yoshikage Kira, a vicious serial killer and the main villain of Diamond is Unbreakable. The shoes are made of black leather and feature the distinctive skull mark from Kira's tie. The inside of the shoes is purple, adding a subtle accent, while the overall black and brown coloring gives the shoes a chic look that is fitting for the character's suave and murderous personality. The insoles of the shoes feature Kira's "stand" superpower, Sheer Heart Attack, in the form of an indestructible, auto-piloted bomb. The insole also includes the mechanical sounds made by Sheer Heart Attack and the creepy line "Look this way!" repeated by the stand.
The second design, called the All Star 100 WHI / JO Rohan Kishibe, is inspired by the character of Rohan Kishibe, a quirky but talented manga artist. The shoes are mostly white canvas with green accents at the top, representing the headband that Rohan usually wears. The shoes are embroidered with Rohan's signature manga pen mark on the inside, near the back.
The inside of the shoe also includes fun details such as the words "You can't attack Rohan Kishibe", written in the style of Rohan's "stand" power, Heaven's Door. The shoes have a double-layered design with hidden details inside the layers, such as the characteristic "Zukyuuun" onomatopoeia frequently used in the manga and the face of Heaven's Door peeking out from between the canvas material. The insole also features Rohan's autograph as it appears in the comic.
Pokémon 25th anniversary x Converse 2021
In 2021, Converse released a special line of shoes to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise. The collection featured a reworked version of the Chuck Taylor All Star icon, inspired by the Kanto region where the Pokémon world was first explored. Characters like Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, Pikachu, and Jigglypuff were featured on the sneakers, which were available in adult, youth, and toddler sizes.
The shoes had a mismatched pattern, with one side featuring the Pokémon in a friendly pose and the other side showing them in their battle stance against Meowth. Additional Pokémon details included a classic Chuck patch and eyelets designed to look like Poké Balls. The shoes also featured a custom license plate and lightning bolt graphic on the back.
Pokemon x Converse 2022
Pokemon and Converse Japan have announced a collaboration that will include four pairs of Chuck Taylor sneakers, each one inspired by classic Pokemon characters Pikachu, Eevee, Charizard, and Mewtwo. The shoes feature the respective Pokemon's colors and a small pixel art Pokemon on the tongue, as well as a biographical motif near the heel with the character's name, height, weight, and number.
Each shoe will also come with a special Poke Ball hangtag, with Pikachu getting a normal one, Eevee a Great Ball, Charizard an Ultra Ball, and Mewtwo a Master Ball. This collection is expected to be released in Japan later this month, with prices around $75, but it is currently unclear if it will also be available in other regions.
Super Mario Bros. x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star - 25th Anniversary
Available in white and black canvas builds, the Super Mario Bros. Chuck Taylors are dressed in repeating 8-bit Mario graphics. Additionally, there is Mario-style branding on the tongue and the classic Chuck Taylor All Star logo gets a bit of a makeover, being replaced with the Super Mario invincibility star.
